Pet Food Collection -- Tuesday March 10th, 2009

Joyce Moyer, of the Gloucester area, is a former greyhound volunteer and was the owner of Velvet Paws, a pet boutique in Haddonfield (it just went out of business after xmas). She is a huge animal adoption advocate and supporter -she was always having events for local shelters, rescues etc at the store. Currently, she is filling a need in the area by providing cat and dog food to families who may otherwise be unable to care for their pets during times of financial difficulty. By coming to the aid of pet owners, they are able to keep their beloved pets instead of finding the pets a new home, relinquishing them to a shelter, or abandoning them. The demand is great and she is in need of bags of dry dog & cat food, any size and brand. Chestnut Ridge Equestrian Center/Helping Hearts Equine Rescue wants to help in this endeavor. We will be collecting dog and cat food, both dry and canned, and will distribute as much as Joyce needs. Any 'overage' will be distributed to other groups/food banks that show an interest/need to assist in this regard. Pet food and supplies can be dropped off in the main barn building at Chestnut Ridge Equestrian Center, 260 Millstone Rd., Perrineville, NJ. Our email address is: chestnutridge@optonline.net

Foster homes needed -- Saturday August 25th, 2007

Foster homes are desperately needed. If you can provide a temporary shelter for dogs or puppies, please look under website features, and click on forms/applications. From there you can fill out a "foster volunteer" form. The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can save. We supply the food, medical care, crates and interview possible adopters. You provide the love and care. Puppy fosters usually stay in their foster homes for two to three weeks. Adult dogs might require a longer foster stay. If you would like more information, please email Kathy at wagoninnrescue@yahoo.com.

Honey's update -- Monday August 13th, 2007

Dear Adrian and everyone at the Wag-on Inn Rescue in Freehold. I just wanted to thank you all for the love and generosity in helping us rescue our little bundle of joy, Honey. Her post surgical results have been short of miraculous, thanks to the expert medical attention she received in Red Bank and the love she got from Adrian, who sat up all night waiting for her emergency surgery. She was in pain, but never without love and kisses for everyone around her...that is what makes her so very special. Bob and I and the boys spent the first three weeks sleeping with her on the dining room floor to make sure that she was hydrated and safe and not tugging at her incision site. She had nightmares that we tried to hush away and we reassured her that her difficult days would be well behind her forever in our home and with her new family. Honey puts up with her therapy patiently and knows that it is all for her own good. We put her in the pool, and massage her leg constantly. We walk her often throughout the day, and alternate hot and cold treatments on her hip and thigh. She is still on medication for pain and inflammation but her appetite is great and her fur looks beautiful, soft and honey colored. Her kisses are amply shared between all of us, as though she is thanking us with all the love she can muster. She is the love of my life, and the boys come home every weekend from Hoboken and the hustle and bustle of their NYC careers to get a dose of Honey. She loves the walks to the marina and loves walking in sand to the water's edge. She loves cookies and cheese and protein sprinkled over her food. She loves when I play the piano and driving around the town, looking out the window and smiling at all the people at red lights. She puts a smile on everyone's face and peacefulness in all of our hearts. She has children from the neighborhood coming over to play with her and read to her and she sits demurely on the front lawn, paws crossed in front of her, with no less than two children surrounding her, petting her and supporting her through her recovery. She is lovingly called Honey Bunny when she reverts back to walking on three legs, and puts her leg down gingerly when we remind her to try and walk on all four! Although she is the sweetest, gentlest dog in the world, her tenacity and strong will gets her through so much....the same determination and and focus and discipline I saw her apply lovingly towards her two beautiful pups Fran and Ollie. She is the ultimate Mommy and Female Warrior, yet so unconditional with her love and patient with her demeanor to all who meet her. Thank you so much Adrian for your commitment and love towards animals that deserve a chance to live and love in this world. Thank you Michele and Ann and Jodie for encouraging us to open our hearts and home, regardless of the outcome, to this wonderful little spirit. Thank you Sal and all the Foster Kids who cared for Honey and transitioned her over to our family. I am the richest person on the planet with Honey in my life. Thank you for the donations and the funds for her costly surgery. I promise to bring Honey to visit you in the near future. I am sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing with the rescue, Adrian. Unfortunately, we are forgetting that this Life is for all creatures, four legged as well as two. May God watch over you and your rescue and all involved with the cause. My gratitude and love

It's a good way to start -- Sunday January 7th, 2007

Well it looks like 2007 will be a good year. Most of Amanda's pups have been adopted. Cheeba who was with us since 2002 finally has a home, which he will share with his chow "sister" Rusty. Daisy, who came to us heartworm positive and nursing seven pups, also got a wonderful new home where she will be the only girl to get all the attention and love she deserves. Yes, 2007 is starting out well. We thank all of you who have adopted some of our rescue dogs. You have made a difference in their lives, and we hope they have made a difference in yours too. Remember...for every dog or cat you adopt, you actually help two. The one that goes home to live with you, and the one that gets the vacancy so they don't have to be put to sleep.

2006 -- Sunday December 31st, 2006

2006 was one of our most active years. With the help of our adopters, we saved the lives of almost 100 animals that were on death row. 86 animals went to their new homes where they add to their adopters lives. Thanks to all of you that have adopted. We couldn't do it without YOU!
