In Memory of My Mom (Betty Patterson)

My parents suffered the loss of their sweet 7 year old dog in the Summer of 2005.  The untimely death of their beloved pet left my 74 year old mother heartbroken.  She swore she would not get another pet because she did not want to suffer this kind of loss again.

Within weeks, however, I began my search for a new companion for my parents.  Through Petfinders.com, I found Wag On Inn Rescue and there I found “Ted E. Bear”, now know as “Teddy”.  My Mom was a big believer in adopting from the shelters as her two previous pets came from a shelter in Mercer County, NJ.

Teddy was adopted by my parents in the Fall of 2005.  He too was 7 years old and just perfect for my parents; housebroken, eager to perform tricks for treats and with a deep devotion (almost gratefulness) that I have truly never seen in a dog before.  To my Mom’s chagrin, he became especially attached to my Dad, following him throughout the house and taking rides with him each morning in the car to get coffee.  Although this special bond developed between my Dad and their dog, Teddy still had enough love to give my Mom too.

Unfortunately, my Mom passed away in an untimely manner approximately one year after adopting Teddy.  We have still not come to terms with her passing; however, her legacy lives on in both me and my sister and her grandchildren.   She made us aware that animals must always be treated with love and respect.  If there is a way to help an animal in need – do it.

My hope is that persons searching this website for a best friend, will read this tribute to my Mom and be encouraged to take a chance on a pet who needs a second chance.  This animal will return your kindness TENFOLD as each of my Mom’s pets did.
